چکیده

With the proliferation of security cameras, the approach taken to monitoring and placement of these cameras is critical. This paper presents original work in the area of multiple camera human activity monitoring. First, a system is presented that tracks pedestrians across a scene of interest and recognizes a set of human activities. Next, a framework is developed for the placement of multiple cameras to observe a scene. This framework was originally used in a limited X, Y, pan formulation but is extended to include height (Z ) and tilt. Finally, an active dualcamera system for task recognition at multiple resolutions is developed and tested. All of these systems are tested under real-world conditions, and are shown to produce usable results.

Temporal and Hierarchical HMM for Activity Recognition Applied in Visual Medical Monitoring using a Multi-Camera System

We address in this paper an improved medical monitoring system through an automatic recognition of human activity in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). A multi camera vision system approach is proposed to collect video sequence for automatic analysis and interpretation of the scene. The latter is performed using Hidden Markov Model (HMM) with explicit state duration combine at the management of the h...

Multi-robot Teams for Environmental Monitoring

In this chapter we target the problem of monitoring an environment with a team of mobile robots having on board video-cameras and fixed stereo cameras available within the environment. Current research regards homogeneous robots, whereas in this chapter we study highly heterogeneous systems and consider the problem of patrolling an area with a dynamic set of agents. The system presented in the ...

Interaction Control Protocols for Distributed Multi-user Multi-camera Environments

Video-centred communication (e.g., video conferencing, multimedia online learning, traffic monitoring, and surveillance) is becoming a customary activity in our lives. The management of interactions in such an environment is a complicated HCI issue. In this paper, we present our study on a collection of interaction control protocols for distributed multi-user multicamera environments. These pro...

Multi-camera Based Traffic Flow Characterization & Classification

We describe a system that employs the use of an omnidirectional camera in tandem with a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera in order to characterize traffic flows, analyze vehicles, and detect and capture anomalous behaviors. The framework is such that we can generate long-term statistics of traffic patterns while still monitoring unusual activity, even apart from the traffic zone. We use the PTZ in con...

Foveal Displays: on Integrating Multi-resolution Input and Output Devices

Previous research on human visual perception system had conducted studies on the spatial variation in human visual resolution. Their studies had shown that only the fovea region of human eyes can afford sharp vision with acute visual details. In this paper, we propose an interactive multi-resolution monitor system composed of a multi-resolution input channel and output display. The multi-resolu...
